Get to Know Dr. Karen Impson D.O.

Pediatrician

After attending medical school at Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa to become a pediatrician, Karen Impson completed her residency at St. John Hospital in Detroit. She then moved to Alaska in 1999, fulfilling a childhood dream of moving to Alaska since visiting her aunt there as a child.

After practicing in Alaska for 5 years, Dr. Impson opened her own clinic in 2004. She now sees children from the time they are born until they leave for college (occasionally even after!). She is a firm believer that children should not only be seen but also heard and tries to make the office a fun and comfortable place for them to visit. She has been known to do exams under her exam tables or under the counters in order to make children feel more comfortable.

Dr. Karen Impson has a special interest in autism as she has a child with autism. It gives her a unique perspective in not only seeing it from the medical side, but also from the personal perspective as a mother. It also helps her guide parents through the often very confusing process of getting their child’s needs met. This includes, where to go, where not to go, how to find the “loopholes” and even where the funding is, if necessary.

Paula, in Her Own Words...

"After being a stay at home mom for many years I pursued an education to become a Certified Medical Assistant in 2010. After graduation I began my adventure with Dr. Impson. I love getting to know the families and watching the kids grow. I feel blessed to have the chance to serve our growing community and the young people in it."
